U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin and Georgia Assembly House Minority Leader Stacey Abrams will be joining Democrats for Public Education, the 527 organization launched earlier this year, POLITICO has learned.

The group was formed to act as a counterweight to reform groups including Democrats for Education Reform, raising money and advocating on behalf of traditional public schools. Former Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland and U.S. Rep. Mark Takano are among the group’s other co-chairs.

Several Hundred other elected officials and activists have signed up as “supporters” of the group on its website, DPE said.

“I’m proud to join a coalition that is committed to giving a voice to the importance of high-quality public education and our shared responsibility to work together to lift every child up to their dreams,” Baldwin said.
